With Manchester United pursuing both Leighton Baines and Fabio Coentrao, Buttner was set to join the turkish club on a season long loan. But with Everton refusing to sell Baines to United along with Marouane Fellaini and Real Madrid pulling the plug on Coentrao’s move, Moyes decided to keep Buttner.
Had Buttner gone, United would have been left with just Fabio Da Silva as cover for Patrice Evra, and with his history of injuries Moyes decided against the risk, instead bringing Buttner into the first team fold.
Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Buttner was delighted with United’s u turn and revealed that there is even a possibility that he will be awarded a new deal:
“On Wednesday I had a good talk with Moyes. He told me that I had come far enough to play for Manchester United this season.
“He absolutely wanted me. I am a full-fledged United player for him.
“Last season obviously turned out to be a good one for me. And that was noticed by the club as well. That they want to talk about my contract is an appreciation of me.”
Buttner’s agent Alexander Bursac had previously admonished United for their treatment of his client, claiming that Moyes didn’t trust the 24 year old.
